New York Giants re-sign S Sean Chandler to the practice squad

The New York Giants have re-signed safety Sean Chandler to the practice squad after waiving him earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the New York Giants finally activated cornerback Sam Beal. Big Blue selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft. The Western Michigan University product, however, hasn’t played a single regular-season nor preseason snap. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in July of his rookie year and then succumbed to a hamstring setback prior to this past preseason.

Nonetheless, the Giants have finally activated him as he prepares for his first NFL-game snaps. To clear a roster spot for the move, the Giants waived safety Sean Chandler. On Wednesday, they re-signed Chandler to the practice squad. This, according to Dan Salomone of the Giants Official Website.

Chandler originally signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2018 season. He played his college ball at Temple University. Across four collegiate seasons, Chandler appeared in 48 games and racked up 265 total tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, three sacks, 10 interceptions (two pick-sixes), 23 passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and four forced fumbles.

Since joining the Giants, Chandler has mostly found himself in a special teams role. He’s appeared in all nine games for Big Blue this season and has been on the field for 78% of the team’s special-teams snaps. Overall in 2019, he’s racked up four combined tackles.

After falling to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday by a score of 37-18, the Giants are now 2-7 on the season. They kick off their Week 10 matchup with the New York Jets this Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET.
