New York Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams speaks on Evan Engram’s injury ahead of matchup with the New York Giants this Sunday.

The New York Jets and New York Giants are heading into their upcoming matchup having won a combined three games. However, that doesn’t mean this showdown won’t be a high-stakes event. It’s the battle of MetLife Stadium, something that occurs just once every four years. Bragging rights until the year 2023 will be signed and sealed come Sunday afternoon.

Therefore, players from either team are a little extra fired up this week, including Jets safety Jamal Adams. Speaking with the media on Thursday, Adams discussed his additional motivation for the upcoming game.

“Hell yeah, [this game] means something to me,” he said. “Every game, but especially this one. Were looking forward to this one, it’s going to be a fun atmosphere.”

Adams also touched upon how he wishes one of his good friends, Giants tight end Evan Engram, would be playing. Engram doesn’t expect to suit up, as the third-year pro is nursing a mid-foot sprain. All-in-all, the veteran safety hopes for him to return healthy.

“I wish Evan Engram was playing, because that’s definitely who I wanted to match up with, and that’s one of my good friends,” Adams said. “We talked about it leading up [to the game]. I got on him [Wednesday, when the injury news broke], I texted him, I said a couple of things. But, he’ll be alright. I hope he’ll get back healthy and we’ll soon face off.”

Adams (LSU) and Engram (Ole Miss) were both first-round selections in the 2017 NFL Draft. Both played against one another in the SEC while in college.

The battle of MetLife will take place at 1:00 p.m. ET this Sunday. It’s an official home game for the Jets.
