It’s official. There’s a new DJ in town for the New York Yankees and this one doesn’t play shortstop.

Or, maybe he will at some point. Stay tuned.

The New York Yankees resident jack of all trades, DJ LeMahieu, brings home his first career Silver Slugger award due to his impressive 2019 campaign.

His first in pinstripes, the award was rightfully earn by the second baseman, who beat out Jose Altuve for the honor to add to his trophy case.

The victory was announced on the Yankees’ official Twitter page on Thursday evening, when MLB made the official confirmation.

LeMahieu’s 26 home runs this season proves that he isn’t just a product of Coors Field. Instead, he utilized the short porch in right and turned into a Derek Jeter-esque, opposite-field batter.

Besides the home runs, LeMahieu slugged a .327/.375/.518 line throughout the regular season. That marks the second-highest batting average for his career, as well as a career-high slugging percentage.

LeMahieu was snubbed in the AL MVP race by not even earning a nomination but he was so clearly the MVP for this depleted Yankees team. LeMahieu was also a top candidate to win the batting title before Tim Anderson emerged the victor.

Let’s also not forget his postseason stats, where LeMahieu lead the Yankees in batting average by batting .325 in 40 at-bats.

While LeMahieu was snubbed for both his defensive abilities and his MVP candidacy, at least he emerged from the rubble with another prize for his trophy case.

Well, that just leaves him hungry for that MVP come 2020.
