Yankees’ Edwin Encarnacion knows poor postseason will ‘hurt him for a long time’

New York Yankees designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion realizes it’ll be a while before he gets over his poor performance in the postseason.

The 2019 season is finally over for the New York Yankees, and it comes without any postseason hardware. On Saturday, the Houston Astros closed out the American League Championship Series in six games over the Bombers.

It came after José Altuve smacked a two-run walk-off home run off closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth inning.

One of the main individuals that contributed to the Yanks’ series defeat was designated hitter and infielder Edwin Encarnacion. In the six matchups, Encarnacion combined for just a .056/.227/.111 slash line.

Heading back to the Bronx, Encarnacion realizes just how long it’ll take to get past this poor performance.

“I never expected to have a series like that,” he said, per Marly Rivera of ESPN. “To lose the way we lost, and me underperforming the way I did, it’s going to hurt me a lot for a long time.”

The Yankees acquired Encarnacion in a trade with the Seattle Mariners this past Summer. In 44 regular-season games for New York, Encarnacion hit 13 home runs with 37 RBI and a slash line of .249/.325/.531.

He also had two RBI and a slash line of .308/.357/.462 in the three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins in their American League Division Series.

However, Encarnacion just seemed to be an automatic the entire series against the Astros. The production from him definitely wasn’t what the team and their fans were hoping for.
